Initial Thoughts: So far I’ve been a fan of the Rocky Patel Seasons Collection. The first cigar was the Summer Collection 2008 and it was so good I had to have a box. The Autumn 2008 Collection was good even thought I am not a big fan of Connecticut cigars. Here’s where the trouble begins. After a stellar review of the Winter Collection 2009 from Jerry over at the Stogie Review, there was a big run on them and unfortunately I could not get my grubby sausages on any (if you have one or two that you are willing to part with please email me for a trade). So here we have the Spring Collection 2009 that I was able to snag from a B&M (brick and mortar shop) in Monona, WI. The cigar is nice chocolate brown color with a green, gold, and chrome band that is kinda ugly in my opinion. The cigar seems to be well made and there are no noticeable defects.

Flavor: This cigar starts off with a pepper blast but tones down within the first inch to reveal a sweet oaky core with notes of coffee and mocha. As the second third begins the cigar transforms into an earthy, nutty core but still has notes of the coffee. In one cigar I smoked the final third was all earth and pepper; and the pepper was overwhelming, in fact I had to set the cigar down much earlier than I like because it was irritating the back of my throat. The second cigar I smoked did not have this problem and smoked pleasantly to the nub. Overall I found this cigar to be medium to full in body.

Smoking Characteristics: Draw is nice, burn is fairly even with a slight cone shaped cherry and the ash is solid; completely acceptable in this category.

Final Thoughts: I was sligtly disappointed by the first stick because of the pepper problem but the second stick did not have the pepper issue the first one did. However, after reading many reviews of this after that initial cigar I found that no one had the pepper issues that I did in the final third so I m going to chalk that up as a fluke and I will say that it was a good cigar.

Worth a Try: Yes
Buy again: Maybe, if I see a few but I doubt I’ll see these again and I am not going to purchase a box
Enjoyabliity: Medium to High
