Cigar Review: Tatuaje Reserva J21

Tatuaje Reserva J21
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Ligero
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Made In: Miami, FL USA
Size: 5×50 Robusto
Price: About $10.50 per single; $250 per box

Construction & Appearance: A nice looking cigar as always from Pete Johnson, owner of Tatuaje cigars. The wrapper of this cigar is a bit darker than the rest of the Tatuaje Miami line primarily because it is a ligero wrapper, compared to the viso wrappers he uses in the other cigars. This cigar is a solidly packed, expertly rolled and has a nicely done triple cap. The construction of this cigar is flawless.

Smoking Characteristics: Draw is perfect, burn is good and the ash nice and compact and holds on a little over half of the cigar. The body of this cigar starts out full, then slowly transitions to medium to full for much of the cigar until the final third which is back in the full realm. The strength is a little bit more than average.

Flavors: The cigar opens up nice and spicy but quickly settles down to a nice sweet and spicy concoction with some espresso bean, leather, and a sweet tea component that is extremely enjoyable. The second third backs down in spice and more of a woody component comes forth. The final third the cigar turns up the depth of the flavors and becomes very full and rich with a nice coffee earthiness that takes center stage.

Final Thoughts: This cigar is flat out an awesome cigar and it is worth every penny in my opinion. Such a nice balance of deep rich flavors, this is defiantly a WOW cigar for me. It is my opinion that this cigar is the epitome of the perfect cigar. I usually have a hard time picking out a favorite cigar but this is it for me. This is exactly the flavor profile I love in a cigar. I’m not going to beat a dead horse here so all I am going to say is got get cha some!

Worth a Shot: Yes!
Buy Again: Yes, I would like to have few boxes of these
Enjoyablity: Very Very High
Similar Cigars: Although I think the regular Tatuaje Miami line is similar, the J21 is by far the best and stand above the rest.

I will agree with you heartily on this review…this cigar is perfect. I bought a box of these off the devil site last year for $220 (box dated APR 08) and I smoked one for the first time last month. I was blown away. I gave one to a friend at the same time (aren’t I generous?) and he immediately wanted to buy as many as I would sell at $10 a stick. This is a guy who normally won’t pay over $3.50 a stick for any cigar. My only regret is that I now only have about a dozen left.
