Pride Cigars Corojo
Today we have a cigar review from a company that many of you may have never heard of, Pride Cigars. Pride Cigars is ran by Ares Contreas who’s grandfather and grandmother who both worked at the same cigar factory in Cuba in the 1940′s. Although Ares was born in the United States, he says, “I have always had an affinity for all Cuban traditions and culture.” Pride Cigars are blended by Master Blender Miguel Francisco and are manufactured by Pride Cigar’s own cigar manufacturing facitlity in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
Wrapper: Dominican Corojo
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican
Made In: Dominican Republic
Size: 5×50 Robusto
Price: $5.50 per single Cigar
Appearance & Construction: The Pride Corojo is an average looking cigar. The wrapper is slightly rough looking with some medium sized veins running the length of the cigar.
Smoking Characteristics: The Pride Corojo has a nice smooth draw with just the slightest bit of resistance; I am going to call it a perfect draw. The burn is very even and the ash is solid and compact, although it does fall off a little early.
Flavor: The Price Corojo is very eventful upfront with a good dose of pepper and wood. After the first inch or so the cigar mellows down a bit into a nice array of almonds, cedar, and a bit of coffee. The cigar stays true to those flavors and remains consistent throughout the entire cigar. The body of the Price Corojo starts off in the medium to full realm but backs down to the medium end of things for the rest of the cigar. The strength is average.
Final Thoughts: Finally, a boutique Dominican that has some body and richness to it. I have thought for a long time that Dominican tobacco would be excellent and would rival Nicaraguan tobacco if they grew it and blended it to be stronger and more Cuban-esqe. This cigar proves my theory and is proof that cigars from the Dominican Republic don’t have to be mild and one dimensional. Sure Litto does great things with Dominican Tobacco, but the boys at Price Cigars have done a fantastic job with the Pride Corojo. It has a good depth of flavor and is nice and crisp on the palate, reminiscent of Cubans I have smoked. A great cigar by the gentleman at Pride Cigars and a great price too.

Pride are some of my favorite new everyday smokes. They’re light and tasty with a great price point. I’ve had the honor of meeting Ares and doing some events with him, and I really look forward to seeing these sticks carried in more B&Ms soon!
Yes me too, I think this is a great cigar at an even greater price. Ares seems like a cool person to meet, hopefully I’ll get a chance to meet him at the show.
Awesome smoke, love it and look forward to a long stay in the industry especially for such a reasonable price.
