Background: Back again with another cigar from the CAO Escaparate line. If you read my review of the CAO Escaparate Costa Rica you already know that this is a rare breed of cigars. If you have not read it I suggest reading it here so you know the background of this cigar.
Appearance & Construction: A nice looking cigar with a blonde colored wrapper. The cigar sports a gold, blue, and red band that is sort of plain. There is also a foot band stating Corona Cigar Co., who is the sole reseller of this cigar. The construction is nice on this cigar but nothing to brag about. The cigar is slightly lumpy and has a spongy feel to it, almost as if it is under filled.
Smoking Characteristics: Draw was great, burn was dead on, ash was slightly flaky and fell off early but overall this cigar does well in this category.
Flavors: The cigar starts off nice and smooth with a creamy buttery core with notes of coffee and roasted peanuts. The flavors are not very complex and don’t change much throughout the cigar but it is still enjoyable because of the richness of the cigar. The cigar is mild in body and is very smooth, but it has enough flavor to keep me very interested in it.
Final Thoughts: As most of you know, I am not big on mild cigars. I enjoy them but they are typically not my thing. This cigar however impressed the hell out of me. Nice rich flavors, a nice burn; this cigar is a definite winner in my book. The only concern I have is how often I will actually smoke these. At $10 a stick and the rarity of this cigar, I consider this to be a special occasion cigar. And since I smoke mild bodied cigars in the morning, how often would I be smoking for a special occasion before noon; maybe my birthday? With that said however, I could defiantly see a mild bodied cigar smoker having this cigar for a special occasion a lot more than myself and I know they would enjoy the hell out of it, so this one is for you mild bodied fanatics.
Worth a Shot: Yes, mild bodied lovers will go bananas over this cigar
Buy More: Yes
Enjoyablity: High
Similar Cigars: Both of the cigars I compare these to do not have the deep rich flavors of this cigar but the Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne and Rocky Patel Connecticut are probably the most similar cigars I can think of.
