This cigar builds on the popularity of the number 1 Rated Cigar of 2008 by Cigar Aficionado; the Casa Magna Colorado Robusto. I reviwed the Casa Magna Colorado Robusto in October of 2009 and while I thought it was a great cigar, I just didn’t think it is #1 material, then again to each thier own and this is why Fire Up That Cigar exsists.

Appearance & Construction: The Casa Magna Oscuro is one of the darkest cigars I have ever seen and is almost black. The wrapper has a few medium sized veins that are smooth to the touch and the construction looks great, nice even cut lines and a great looking cap.

Smoking Characteristics: The draw on the Casa Magna Oscuro is nice and produces a good amount of thick smoke. The burn suffered a little bit but nothing a few touch ups couldn’t fix. The ash of the cigar flowered quite a bit but did not flake off everywhere.

Flavor: The Casa Magna Oscuro starts off with some nice dark fruity flavors almost like raisins or prunes. Also present are some notes of dark cocoa without the bitterness. The body of this cigar is full and the strength is stronger than most, but nothing over the top.

Final Thoughts: The Casa Maga Oscuro is a solid cigar. A very rich and full flavored cigar but lacked that extra something. However, for the price I don’t think you can complain very much. At the $5-$6 price range it’s hard to beat. I will say that this cigar reminds me of the CAO La Traviata and the cigar review is almost identical in nature; good cigar, good price but misses that something extra. As far as which one is better I don’t think you can go wrong with either of them and I would have to call that one a tie. I will say however that I do prefer the Casa Magana Colorado over the Oscuro because it’s closer to my flavor profile that I enjoy.
