Cigar Review: La Flor Dominicana Limitado III

Cigar Nutrition
Wrapper:
Ecuadorian Sumatra
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican
Made in: Dominican
Size: 6.5x 52 Toro
Price: $10.00 from my local B&M but as with all cigars they can be had for cheaper

Cigar Background: This cigar is the third of the Limatado line made by Litto Gomez and a mere 2,000 boxes are made per year. All the tobacco from this cigar was grown on Litto’s personal farm and is boasted as Litto’s best cigar.

Initial Thoughts/ Prelight: When I first sat down with this cigar I was just going to relax and enjoy and not review it, hence no pictures of the start of the cigar. However, the more I smoked it the more I figured this would make a good review so I started taking notes. The wrapper is a bit veiny but should do just fine. The cigar is packed very well and there are no soft spots what-so-ever. The cold draw was perfect and did not produce any noticeable flavors.

Flavors: This cigar starts off with pepper, lots and lots of pepper. After the first inch the pepper lets up a little bit and notes of coffee and dry cinnamon come through. After another inch the cigar turns very earthy with a back drop of, you guessed it, pepper. This cigar left my palate very dry and I went through a lot of water while smoking it. What was really surprising is that this cigar did not have an ounce of sweetness to it which is usually prevalent in a Sumatran wrapper. As I progressed into the second third of the cigar the pepper began to get me in the back of the throat and was very unpleasant. The coffee flavors were beginning to diminish and all I could taste was the peppery earthiness. During the second third I had to purge this cigar. The dryness of this cigar and all the pepper was pissing me off. After the purge the cigar mellowed out quite a bit and was tolerable. The final third was all earth.

Smoking Characteristics: This cigar smoked like a champ. You can’t ask for much more in this department; the draw was phenomenal and the burn line was thin and even through the entire cigar. The ash held firm and I had to knock it on the ash tray pretty hard to get it off. No complaints about the way this cigar smoked.

Final Thoughts: Overall this cigar was not very smooth and was very unbalanced. The pepper totally took center stage and did not leave much room for anything else. At $10 a stick I was expecting much more complexity and I expected a smooth characteristic to the cigar; none of which were had.

Worth a Try: Usually I say every cigar is worth a try but as far as this one goes, save your money.
Buy it Again: Not a chance
Nubablity: very very low.

  1. Thanks for the honest review. It’s too bad this one never developed into anything for you. I had a LFD Factory Press II and really enjoyed it. But the price point at my B&M will keep me away for awhile. So often I’m hearing these LFD are hit & miss which isn’t good. I hate cigar crap-shoots. Anyway thanks again for the review.

It’s shame about how harsh it was. I remember smoking the Limitado II and what a fantastic cigar it was. Maybe with some time this cigar will balance out and be a better smoke.

I would have to agree with the out come of the review you experienced. I just smoked a factory Press Limitado yesterday and paid $10, out the door $11 n change…I was expecting flavor and complexity like the Factory Press III, but there wasn’t any.

Should have just spent the extra $3-4 bucks and bought the Factory Press III. I would have enjoyed the stogie a whole lot better.

    Thanks,

    Ray-Ray

I thought this wa what LFD was all about. Full bodied smokes, that if you don’t have on a full stomach, can leave you looking for a place to hurl. Don’t get me wrong, I love ‘em!
