Appearance & Construction: A beefy looking cigar that looks fantastic. The wrapper is a smooth, semi oily and dark brown in color. The Limitado IV has a couple moderately sized veins running throughout the cigar but nothing out of the norm and the roll looks great. All in all a great looking cigar.
Smoking Characteristics: The La Flor Limitado IV has a nice draw with a bit of resistance and produces a ton of smoke. The burn was even for the most part, but did require a couple touch ups. The ash was super strong and held on for a good 2-3 inches but did flower in some areas. The body is full to ultra full on this cigar while the strength is strong.
Flavors: At the start the primary flavor of the La Flor Dominicana Limitado IV is pepper. After the first couple inches the pepper does back down and gives way to some earthy floral notes. The final third of the cigar really came into its own. The earthiness was the main show with notes of the dried flowers, rich caramel and chocolate flavor, almost like a Ghirardeli Carmel square.
Final Thoughts: Overall I did enjoy this cigar a lot. The pepper was a bit much on the start of this cigar but once it backed down the flavors became ultra complex and very enjoyable. A Cigar Enthusiast who does not care for pepper in their cigars would probably not enjoy this cigar, but you pepper-whores will love this one. I like pepper in my cigars but I dislike it when it is the main show. Compared to last year’s Limitado III, the Limitado IV blows it out of the water.
