Cigar Background: This is a special cigar that was made by Don Pepin Garcia for Nestor Miranda, owner of Miami Cigar Company, to commemorate their 20th year in business. Only 1,000 boxes were made for each wrapper and once these are gone, that is it. The name Danno, which refers to the size of this cigar, is Nestor’s son’s name. On June 12, 2009, Nestor Miranda gave away one of these cigars to every smoker who bought any cigar from one of the 500 authorized Nestor Miranda Dealers. All Nestor asked for was to have them smoke it that same afternoon to celebrate their 20 years in business.
Appearance & Construction: This Nestor Miranda 20th is the standard in which all cigars should be held to as far as appearance and construction. The cigar has a perfect roll that is virtually seamless and has no rough spots or bumps in the wrapper. The nice pigtail cap has been expertly applied and the band is classy and simple. This cigar is absolutely perfect in this category.
Smoking Characteristics: The draw was a little tight on one of the cigars I smoked but the others were just fine. The burn is pretty wavy and although the ash holds on for over two inches, it is very flaky. The body of this cigar is medium to full and the strength is average.
Flavors: The Nestor Miranda 20th Anniversary Danno has a nice sweet cedary core with notes of coffee, chocolate and a touch of spice. The cigar is a roller coaster between these flavors but doesn’t add anything to this which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Final Thoughts: My friend @chiefhava from Twitter got me started on these cigars and I haven’t been able to stay away from them since. I’ve smoked quite a few of these things so far (not as many as chiefhava) and every time I smoke them I keep liking them more and more. Usually I am not a big fan of these huge ass cigars but this one just does it for me.
