Cigar Review: Oliva Serie V

Oliva Serie V
Wrapper: Sun Grown Habano
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Made In: Nicaragua
Size: 5×54 Belicoso
Price: About $115 per box of 24

Appearance and Construction: Construction, as with all Oliva’s, is phenomenal. This belicoso is a stout looking fella and has a nice pointy tip. The cigar feels solid with a slight bounce when gently pinched between my fingers. There are no prominent veins and the roll looks flawless.

Smoking Characteristics: The burn is slightly wavy but very acceptable, the draw is good and the ash is nice and compact. The cigar starts out medium to full but towards the second third, it becomes full.

Flavors: This cigar starts out with that typical Nicaraguan zing. It’s a sweet zesty earthiness with some coffee, cocoa and a bit of spice. There is also a tangy fruitiness almost like dried apricots. In the second third the flavors really pick up in intensity and richness and the coffee notes really take center stage. The final third is the same as the second third but with more of an earthy pepperiness.

Final Thoughts: This is an extremely enjoyable cigar. The flavors are rich and complex and are spot on for my taste profile. The price, as with all Oliva’s, is very fair for what you get. Also, if you want to experience a different size with this cigar, I highly recommend the lancero size. It is a lot more powerful and a cigar I enjoy.

Worth a Shot: Yes
Buy Again: Yes, when this box runs out I will definitely replace it
Enjoyablity: High
