The Padilla Dominus is made by none other that Ernesto Padilla of Padilla Cigars. According to Ernesto, this cigar is his fullest cigar to date. The Padilla Dominus utilizes a Nicaraguan Corojo 2006 wrapper which is a brand new strain of tobacco. This cigar was debuted at this year’s IPCPR trade show in New Orleans.
Appearance & Construction: The Padilla Dominus is a decent looking cigar with a reddish brown wrapper that has some moderately sized veins. The cigar feels like your average cigar, not hard but not soft. The band is pretty neat looking with a lion as the main focal point.
Smoking Characteristics: The cigar has a nice even draw to it and produces a good amount of smoke. The burn was even in some areas and uneven in others. The ash was very solid and held on for a long time. The body of the cigar is full and the strength is medium to full.
Flavor: Right from the get-go of the Padilla Dominus you get a decent dose of red pepper. Once things settle down the cigar begins to take on a woody core with notes of coffee, cinnamon, and caramel. The second third was a bit more earthy than woody but still had the coffee and caramel flavors. As the final third started the cigar got a bit creamier and the caramel flavors really picked up. Also in the final third the woody flavors returned which was very nice.
Final Thoughts: Overall I really enjoyed the Padilla Dominus. A great flavor in this cigar and it was very a very complex smoke. How does it stack up to the rest of the Padilla brands? I would say it is the most full bodied cigar he offers but I would still take a Signature 1932 over this cigar. I would say it is most similar to the Miami line but more complex and fuller bodied. Also, the price on this cigar also seems a bit high, I would rather see it around the $8-$9 price point but it is what it is. Overall, a very nice smoke.
Worth a Shot: Yes, but beware it is a full bodied cigar
Buy Again: Yes, I would like to have 5er of these on hand
Rating: Good – Great

It seems to me in this crappy economy, all the top makers are going the wrong way! That’s a steep price for sure! Great pic up top on the header, love that band anyway!
My previous experience with Padilla has been mostly disappointing, though that didn’t stop me from ordering a Dominus 5-pack and Padilla 1932 Churchill, which is sitting in my humidor. I cannot yet comment on this cigar, though the above review is encouraging. I can say that I think the band looks rather garish and silly. That lion reminds me of The Wizard of Oz, or worse, the 18 Bengal tigers and 17 lions that were shot in OH after that nut let loose his private zoo. It is true that the band does not make (or break) the cigar. Me though, I prefer something simple.
