Cigar Review: Rocky Patel Decade

Rocky Patel Decade Torpedo
Wrapper: Sumatra
Binder: Secret
Filler: Secret
Made In: Honduras
Size: 6.5×52 Torpedo
Price: About $10.50 per single

Appearance and Construction: The Rocky Patel Decade is an elegant looking cigar. The gold on gold looks ubber classy on top of the chocolate brown wrapper, and the construction is top notch. The Decade is slightly box-pressed and there are no noticeable defects with this cigar.

Smoking Characteristics: The Decade has a perfect draw to it and produces a good amount of smoke. The burn is slightly wavy because of the box-press but nothing out of control. The ash is a solid whitish gray and holds on well over an inch. The body of the cigar is medium and the strength is average.

Flavors: The Rocky Patel Decade opens up with a sweet cedary core with notes of coffee, mocha, caramel and leather. On the finish the cigar melds to a nice woody florally notes. In the second third the cigar becomes smoother and creamier and the caramel notes really come alive. The final third turns more leathery and is a nice finish to this cigar.

Final Thoughts: As I was putting together my Top 25 list of cigars for 2009, I realized I had never reviewed the Rocky Patel Decade (hint, this cigar makes my Top 25 for 2009). I’ve smoked through my fair share of these cigars and it never disappoints. I’ve smoked this cigar in high times and low times and it hits the target every time. The flavors on the Decade are spot on and very complex. There are a lot of Rocky haters out there and some that are probably reading this as we speak, but there is no denying that this is a fantastic cigar. I also wanted to point out that this cigar has been aging for over a year and has not lost a thing. It is still has the rich and complex flavors that made me love this cigar from day one.

Worth a Shot: Yes

Jr, I couldn’t agree more. The Decade is by far his greatest work. The only concern I have is if he can continue with the consistancy. So far I have not had any problems but some people are saying that they have not been tasting like they have.
