I have had a few of the Tabacos Baez cigars in the past and the rest of them have been sitting in the humidor for a little over a year now. Digging through my humidor last week I came upon these Don Pepin Cigars and had totally forgotI had them. I figured these would make for a good cigar review so let’s get it started.

Appearance and Construction: The Tabacos Baez by Don Pepin has a darker color than most connecicut wrapped cigars and is milk chocolate in color. The wrapper has a few minor veins running throughout and shows a good amount of tooth on the wrapper. The band leaves much to be desired and is pretty plain and boring, and dare I say ugly.

Smoking Characteristics: The draw on the Tabacos Baez is nice and produces a ton of smoke. The burn is bordering on uneven in my book but nothing to complain about. The ash did flower in some areas but stayed attached and didn’t make a mess. The body of the Tabacos Baez starts out medium to full but backs down to the mild to medium for most of the cigar, but the final third goes back to medium to full. The strength of this cigar is average.

Flavor: The Tabacos Baez starts off with some serious earthy pepper notes and a sweet buttery finish. After the first inch of the cigar, things mellow down in the pepper department and an earthy woodsy core is joined by some notes of mild coffee, nuts, caramel, and that signature Connecticut buttery creamy finish. There is also a salty component to the cigar that is making me grab for some water. The second third is much of the same however the final third is where things pick up again and the pepper makes a return, although it is more mellow compared to the beginning of the cigar.

Final Thoughts: Overall I think the Tabacos Baez by Don Pepin is a good cigar. It has good flavor for being a Connecticut and is one of the more flavorful Connecticut’s I have had. This cigar does not match my flavor profile but it is still a good cigar and I think many cigar enthusiast will enjoy this cigar.
