Cigar Review – Tatuaje Serie P
Tatuaje Series P cigars are a “budget friendly” cigar made in Jose Pepin Garcia’s My Father Cigar Factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. The Tatuaje Series P is a “Cuban sandwich” cigar made with the same filler blend as Pete Johnson’s Tatuaje Havana VI, but is made with the scrap tobacco from the Havana VI’s. These are Nicaraguan puros and are said to have 40% long filler and 60% medium filler.
I smoked this cigar with Mike Gehm, owner of Titletown Tobacco in Green Bay, WI. Titletown Tobacco is Green Bay’s only cigar lounge and has the best selection of big name and boutique cigars in the Green Bay area and is where I call home when I want to enjoy a fine cigar. If you are ever in the Green Bay Area, be sure to stop by Titletown Tobacco and enjoy a fine cigar in one of the best Cigar Lounge’s in the midwest.
Cigar: Tatuaje Series P
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Habano
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Made In: Nicaragua – My Father Cigars
Size: 5 5/8x 46 – Corona Gorda
Price: $4.50 per Single
Appearance & Construction: The Tatuaje Serie P is not prettiest girl at the prom. The wrapper is pretty rough looking and has some larger veins that run throughout the cigar. Construction wise it is not a typical Pepin and due to the nature of the cigar being a “Cuban Sandwich.” My guess is that the Tatuaje Serie P is rolled by apprentice rollers or rollers who are new to the trade.
Smoking Characteristics: The Tatuaje Serie P has a nice smooth draw to it and produces a large amount of smoke. The burn line is pretty wavy and the ash is soft and brittle, but this is to be expected from a cigar with mixed filler.
Flavor: The Tatuaje Serie P starts off with some nice woody tones, a bit of coffee and a nicely balanced brown sugar sweetness. There is also some peppery spice that mottles the flavors at times. The flavor of the Serie P is pretty straight-forward and consistent from start to finish. The body of the Tatuaje Serie P is medium and the strength is average.
Final Thoughts: Overall I think the Tatuaje Serie P is a good value cigar. The flavor is good and the burning characteristics are acceptable. The cigar will definitely not blow you away with complexity or balance, but is fit for duty when you want to smoke a Tatuaje but the budget is tight.
