Davidoff Puro d’Oro Magnificos – Cigar Review

Davidoff Puro d’Oro
Wrapper: Dominican Yamasa
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican
Made In: Dominican Republic
Size: Magnificos, 5.125×52
Price: $391.74 per box of25, $85.50 per 5 pack from Smoke Inn

Appearance & Construction: The Puro d’Oro gives off a rustic, yet elegant feel. The cigar itself is somewhat rustic looking as the wrapper has a decent amount of smaller veins and has a slightly bumpy feel and appearance. The cigar is topped off with a chopped pig tail cap and sports a shiny gold band stating the size of the cigar.

Smoking Characteristics: The Puro d’Oro has a nice smooth draw with just a touch of resistance. The burn line was pretty even for the most part but did need a couple of touch ups. The ash held on for a little over an inch or so and was medium gray in color.

Flavor: The Davidoff Puro d’Oro starts off with notes of cedar, a raisin-esque sweetness, mild spice tones, cashews, and faint hint of fresh basil. The finish is primarily woodsy and is nice and long. In the second third the cigar some leather joins the already complex notes on this cigar. The final third is much of the same but the sweetness in the cigar melds into an aged Rum flavor which was very interesting. The body of the Davidoff Puro d’ Oro is medium and the strength is average.

Final Thoughts: Although I don’t have a lot of experience with Davidoff cigars, the Puro d’Oro is hands down, the best Davidoff I have ever smoked. At around the $18 price point per cigar I won’t be smoking these too often but when I am looking to treat myself, this is a cigar I wouldn’t mind reaching for. The cigar itself if very complex, well balanced and is a treat of a cigar.

Cigar Rating: Great
