Appearance & Construction: The GAR Vanguard is a nice looking stick. A chocolate colored wrapper with minimal veins covers this cigar. The construction seems good on this stick as the roll seems even and tight and there is also a triple cap applied to this cigar. The band on the GAR is awesome in my opinion. Silver writing on a black background; very sharp.

Smoking Characteristics: The GAR Vanguard has a perfect draw to it that produces a healthy amount of smoke. The burn is even on the cigar but the ash, although compact, does tend to fall off a bit prematurely.

Flavors: The first third of the G.A.R. Vanguard is filled with notes of wood, nuts, spice, coffee, and a citrusy tang. The second third was a little less complex but still offered the coffee, wood, and citrusy tang. The final third of the GAR Vanguard added some leather to the already complex flavor profile.

Final Thoughts: What a fantastic smoke the GAR Vanguard is! A nice complex smoke with a nice medium to full body is what you will get with the GAR Vanguard. The flavor profile is right up my alley and I can’t get over how good the price is on these cigars at just over $5 per cigar. I also can’t believe this cigar hasn’t got more attention. This cigar is at least a Top 5 in my Best Cigars of the Year 2010.

Cigar Rating: Excellent/ Significantly Above Average
