Reinado – Cigar Review

Reinado Cigars is a new brand of premium cigars that was introduced at the 2010 IPCPR Trade Show in New Orleans. Brand owner Antonio Lam says, “The Reinado blend sets itself apart from any on the market by using an original and closely guarded secret fermentation process employing several types of select premium tobacco.” Made in Nicaragua at the Cubanero Cigar Factory, Reinado is a Nicaraguan Puro made of all “cuban seed” tobaccos.

Cigar: Reinado

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Habano Rosado
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Made In: Nicaragua

Appearance & Construction: The Reinado has a rustic appearance to it. The cigar has a slightly bumpy appearance and has a pretty soft/spongy feel when pressed between the fingers. The seam lines however, are evenly cut and besides being a little soft, seem to be constructed nicely.

Smoking Characteristics: The draw is good on the Reinado with a fair amount of drag. The burn is even for the most part and surprisingly did not require any touch ups. I say surprisingly because of how soft the cigar is, but it performed well. The ash is light in color but only holds for about three quarters of an inch.

Flavor: Right from the get go you know what this cigar is about. A smooth balanced flavor profile that consists of coffee, leather, floral notes and a slight spice through the nose. In the second third, a little butterscotch sweetness emerges and is added to the mix. In the final third, things pick up in intensity and body. Overall though, I would say this cigar is medium to full.

Final Thoughts: I really like the Reinado and even though the Churchill isn’t my vitola of choice, I still enjoyed every minute of the cigar. The one thing that really surprised me is how great this cigar starts out. Nub’s claim is that their cigar gets right to the sweet spot right away, well this cigar does that and it’s a hell of a lot easier to smoke. Nice balance along with a good amount of complexity gets this cigar a ‘Very Good’ rating.

Cigar Rating: Very Good
