Tatuaje Verocu Tubos – Cigar Review
Wrapper: Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Made In: Nicaragua
Size: 6 1/8 x 52 – Torpedo
Price: $10.50 per single Cigar
Appearance & Construction: The Tatuaje Verocu Tubos is a nice looking package. First you have the nice mat red tubo with Tatuaje printed in silver lettering. As I unscrew the cap and gently remove the cigar from the tube, I was blown away with how dark this cigar is, it almost looks like a dark Maduro, but as far as I know it is just a Nicaraguan natural wrapper. The wrapper has some medium sized veins to it but the seam lines are even and the cigar seems to be constructed well.
Smoking Characteristics: The Tatuaje Verocu Tubos has a perfect draw and for a torpedo, that’s saying a lot. The burn line was a little wavy but nothing a little relight can’t handle. The ash was solid and held on for over an inch but it was chunky and flaked off all over the place.
Flavor: The Tatuaje Verocu Tubos starts out with a deep rich earthy flavor and spice. After the first few inches the spice subsides a bit and the rich earthy flavor is joined by strong espresso flavors and leather. The second third was much of the same but the final third the cigar settles down in the body department and the flavor transitions to a natural tobacco flavor.
Final Thoughts: I can’t help but comparing the Tatuaje Verocu Tubos to the Tatuaje Black Tubos. Despite cracked wrapper on the Tatuaje Black, I think I will still give the nod to the Black Tubos over the Verocu Tubos. The Tatuaje Verocu Tubos is a good cigar but it was fairly one dimensional and lacked any sort of balance of flavor. It just seemed to be earthy and fullness throughout and it was pretty boring and for the price, I would take two of the regular Red Havana VI’s any day.
Cigar Rating: Good
