Cigar Review of Viaje Oro
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo 99 Café
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Made In: Honduras
Size: Chico – 5 ½ x 44 Corona
Price: $8.50 per sinlge cigar
Appearance and Construction: The Viaje Oro has a rustic look and feel with a slightly bumpy appearance. The wrapper is oily and is medium brown in color with just a slight tint of red. The roll looks great as the seam lines are nice and even. The band is a nice green, white and gold combination that is elaborate, yet clean and classy.
Smoking Characteristics: The Viaje Oro, despite its smaller ring gauge, has a very nice draw that produces a ton of thick billowing smoke. The burn is dead even and the ash is surprisingly strong for such a thin cigar.
Flavor: The Viaje Oro has nice rich flavors of cedar, espresso, dark chocolate and nice caramel sweetness. There is also a bit of spice to go along, but is well balance with the rest of the cigar. As the second third begins, I notice that the flavors intensify but are still extremely well balanced. The final third of the Viaje Oro really intensifies and the woody flavors turn to more of an earthiness. The espresso and caramel sweetness still remain and is very nice on the palate. The body of the Viaje Oro is medium to medium/full and the strength is average.
Final Thoughts: The Viaje Oro Chico is an unbelievable cigar. I have been smoking through these things like crazy last 5 months. The cigar has nice rich flavors that are complex and balanced. This cigar hits my flavor profile right smack dab in the middle of the bull’s-eye. Smoking this cigar reminds me of sipping on a nice Carmel Macchiato from Starbucks. The Viaje Oro is an absolute joy to smoke. There is nothing negative I can say about this cigar. The Viaje Oro is truly a fantastic cigar that I think any cigar smoker would thoroughly enjoy. This cigar is defiantly worth a box and is a serious candidate for Cigar of the Year in 2010.
