Viaje Oro Reserva – Cigar Review

Being introduced in 2010, the Viaje Reserva line will be rolled twice a year in limited production. Using aged ligero from Esteli and tobaccos with much more age on them than their production counterparts, these cigars are even stronger and richer in flavor.

Cigar: Viaje Oro Reserva
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Made In: Honduras – Raices Cubana
Size: #5 – 5.5×52
Price: $11.40 per single cigar

Appearance & Construction: The Viaje Oro Reserva is a nice looking box-pressed cigar. There are some moderately sized veins throughout but should not be a problem. The construction looks good as the seam lines are even but because of the box press, you can definitely see the seam lines.

Smoking Characteristics: The Viaje Oro Reserva has an absolute perfect draw that produces a lot of rich dense smoke. The burn is okay and required some touch ups. The ash is strong but was one of the darkest ashes I have ever seen on a cigar.

Flavor: The Viaje Oro Reserva starts off with some nice coffee flavors, caramel and cedar. The cigar starts off medium to full in body but in the second third the cigar builds in body and depth of flavor. The finish of the Viaje Reserva last for an extremely long amount of time, which is very nice. There is also some cinnamon and leather that get added to the already complex flavor profile in the second third. The final third the body progresses yet again and is firmly planted in the full realm of things.

Final Thoughts: Can Viaje miss? Seriously… this is yet another incredible cigar from Andrew Farkas, owner of Viaje Cigars. Like the intro says, it is extremely rich and complex and has good body transition throughout the cigar. It is smooth and balanced to perfection and is everything you could ask for in a cigar. As far as how it differs from the regular Oro line, it is much richer and smoother. This is definitely a cigar I would recommend to just about everybody and is well worth a box purchase.

Cigar Rating: Excellent

Anyone know where to buy the Viaje Oro Reserve VOR No. 5? I can’t find it anywhere, and I’m in the DC-area where there are a good number of high-end cigar shops. Eager to try this. It’s one thing for CA to rate it highly… but your review is extremely positive also. Thanks.
